Brühl has worked in many countries both Europe and America and in several languages. He starred in many European films like The Edukators, Ladies in Lavender, Joyeux Noël and Salvador (Puig Antich). He is fluent in German, English, Spanish, French and Catalan.
He was introduced to mainstream US audiences in the role of Frederik Zoller, a German war hero in Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds and in a minor role in The Bourne Ultimatum. Some of his more recent films are Et si on vivait tous ensemble?, Eva. Brühl will portray Niki Lauda in Ron Howard film Rush.
